Apart from the items noted in research
and elsewhere, what
else might affect our overall sense of wellness?
« What might contribute to that special sense of affinity or friendship we feel when living well in the
world with others?
« What might we seek after fulfilling our safety, shelter, and health needs?
Or, even before meeting many of these needs?

For those who are curious, here are a few things that I found especially useful on my personal path towards
Self.
1. Bhakti;
love (for an explanation of what I mean by bhakti, visit any of
the sub-pages in the Bhakti
& Love section) which led to a steadfast and sincere desire to
know Self-Realization, faith that my path would unfold correctly, and
a willingness to devote however long it might take (regardless of time,
effort, etc.). Within this: truthfulness, acceptance/deep love and non-covetousness,
etc.
2. Prayers of thanksgiving, asking to be guided rightly, and the
corresponding development of intuitive faculties.
3. Introspection, and corresponding self/ego work.
4. Japa Sadhana; in my case this was
deeply guided by intuition, as were all that follow:
5. Practicing to feel or notice, both on or at
and then also through the place between one's eyebrows in the center of
one's forehead. For a nice visual, you might refer to the placement
of 'the third eye' in images of Shiva. Remembering to feel —
and actually feeling — this place (without
touching it with one's fingers), at different times throughout the day.
Then also: focusing past or through this point, upwards (as high as possible),
during meditative practice; mantra yoga; japa sadhana.
Slight posture adjustments (ex. back straight/not slouching etc., during
meditation), intuitively guided.
6. Jnana Yoga; for me this meant regular
and wise, intuitive, and deep reading of a variety
of religious, spiritual or philosophical texts.
7. Meditation, especially Kriyayoga meditation.
8. Vegetarianism
...Also: abstaining from salt (duration: several months. At present, I
find it ok to use some, on occasion), and eating/cooking without oils
(similar as case re: salt). Notably, "vegetarianism" evolved
into veganism. Happily! :)
9. Abstinence. Now in my case, this meant joyfully
and lovingly self-restricting a
lot of activities in order to even better personally uptake and integrate a particular outlook
or perspective on life, namely: noting the Infinite nature of all. I would emphasize reading of the Divine, seeing the Divine (i.e. everywhere in
the world, in me, practicing to remember all
as part of the same Truth, etc.), listening to meditative, devotional
songs, or inspiring songs, etc. Practicing remembrance of the Divine via
each of the senses, as well as within, as well as throughout all, in the
world ...which all helped me focus my mind, and in retrospect,
which helped me mentally integrate non-dualism into my lived-experience
before a deep awakening, unexpected experience, or expansion of
consciousness involving the same.
10. Satsanga. Literally, keeping
company with the truth or practicing remembrance thereof, for me this
also meant developing personal discrimination in regards to
what kind of company I would particularly benefit and benefit from, at
various stages. This could entail everything from attending worship
services, practicing meditative yoga with a group, being among
especially loving people, keeping spiritually-focused company and,
spending time alone. Knowing all are manifestations of Cosmic
Consciousness, I yet began to deeper nourish myself from within, via
intuition, in this way.
11. Kriyayoga meditation in
itself (apart from other meditative techniques). As taught by Yogi Satyam, this
technique is excellent.
...If at
this point you doubt how your own path might unfold for you, consider this
personal example from me: interestingly, a few of my personal items (ex.
my license plate), would "just happen" to have a very close association with
Yogi Satyam — for example,
something might also contain or list a key location accessible to me wherein
we would eventually met, and I would return for years following. Needless
to say, upon meeting, my practice further deepened, etc. :) ...And so really:
you don't need to see your full path at this point. Just set your
intention clearly, take the first few steps you can with ample faith, keep
courage to move along your path, and all will open up for you. Really,
it will.
In
my case, devotion became a lifestyle of choice. Via the manifestation of personal miracles, answered prayers,
a strongly developing intuitive
faculty and resultant shifts in Consciousness or deepened awareness, I began to see paths that I should take and those that I should lovingly defer
from for a
time, noting notwithstanding, that everything is the Divine at work.
I'd say also, that following certain levels of awareness, I was
encouraged to be re-integrated into many different aspects of
life, to share, at a minimum. At one point you see, I would have much preferred to stay placed solely in a sort of quiet practice of bhakti; a sort of enjoyment of innerness and similar
things without venturing outward too frequently. This is because I found this sort of quietude to be all Joy, all Bliss, all Everything, Pure
Potential; a deep enjoyment of pure Being, after all, and, a very
peaceable way of enjoying existence while loving and helping, also. In retrospect, I see the importance of (to borrow a phrase), staying "in the world." Now, I both deeply understand the rapture of Bliss and the value of remaining involved in the world
or worldliness, to some degree.
Everything is a gift from the Divine. Everything is Divine at work or play. Freedom and Bliss are your
birthrights. Divine Bliss, Blessedness, Supreme Consciousness, Harmony/Perfect
Love/Ahimsa, Peace, Infinite Power, and Eternal Life, are
everywhere present. Yet, to be in a Consciousness of Innocence and remember it always; to
remain in Singularity; to uncover Loving and stay placed that way — to know Love even for the smallest moment
and keep its
memory while everywhere in the world amid a plethora of disparate or
conflicting thoughts and the like; to be in Bliss and remain
there; to be in that place where Shiva sits with Shakti (as I've described
in a poem or two) while deeply engaged in worldly affairs — well, I think
that at least might take a little more effort, a steadfast or focused
mind or intention, a clear and strong dose of love and emotional maturity, and similar things.
Seeking the Divine while the Divine is yet closest to you can be difficult,
however beautiful, infinitely rewarding beyond your wildest expectations, and
indeed: a natural course for all of us, it also is. We are not separate
from the attributes we associate with God — that is, omnipotence, omnipresence,
etc. .— Divine is, after all, what we are in our truest capacity.
May your
path unfold magnificently, and to this end, I hope this
entire site is helpful to you.
With
Loving Best Wishes,
Eppi Sukhu, MHSc.
